Everything is just getting so goddamn pathetic that I can’t even watch the news anymore…

“…o man’s great ugliness everywhere like that fresh dog turd that the morning shoe did not see  again, o the mighty police, o the mighty dictators, o the mighty damn fools everywhere, o the lonely lonely octopus, o the clock-tick seeping each neat one of us balanced and unbalanced and holy and constipated, o the bums lying in alleys of misery in a golden world, o the children to become ugly, o the ugly to become uglier, o the sadness and sabres and the closing of the walls- no Santa Claus, no pussy, no Magic Wand, no Cinderella, no Great Minds ever; kukoo- just shit and the whipping of dogs and children, just shit and the wiping away of shit, just doctors without patients, just clouds without rain, just days without days, o god o mighty that you put this upon us…

When we break into your mighty palace and timecard angels, I want to hear Your voice just saying once

MERCY

MERCY

MERCY

FOR YOURSELF and for us and for what we will do to You. I turned off Irola until I hit Normandie, that’s what I did, and then came in and sat and listened to the telephone ring.”

Fan-FUCKING-tactic!….now they’ve got “laptop bombs.” What the hell will they come up with next, “smartphone bombs?!” Or maybe “toilet seat bombs?!” We won’t be able to go anywhere, won’t be able to communicate from the air, and we won’t even be able to take a shit at the airport in peace without worrying about getting our asses blown off…

“Generals gathered in their masses,

Just like witches at black masses.

Evil minds that plot destruction,

Sorcerers of death’s construction.

In the fields the bodies burning,

As the war machine keeps turning.

Death and hatred to mankind,

Poisoning their brainwashed minds.

Politicians hide themselves away,

They only started the war.

Why should they go out to fight,

They leave that role to the poor.”

Black Sabbath

To care only for well-being seems to me positively ill-bred. Whether it’s good or bad, it is sometimes very pleasant, too, to smash things.”

JUNKYARD OF THE SOUL

by THB3

Way out there

on the edge of town

where some of us dwell

in trash and squalor

there lies a melancholy silence

Where tires burn

and metal is crushed

and toxic smoke floats

in billowing clouds

inspiration rises from the ashes

Rusted old cars that will carry no passengers

bikes never to be ridden again

refrigerators that will hold no more food

burned-out appliances to be used nevermore

within all these things there lie dark secrets of a meaningless eternity

The old metal shack

the junkyard dog

the coyotes at the fringes

the crows

the endless expanse

To dwell in this place

is to lead an inward life

of reflection and relentless imagination

to escape everyday in inventive new ways

to free yourself from the shackles of the ordinary

The white hot eye of the sun

the old newspapers and trash

blowing aimlessly across this hopeless desolation

even emptiness serves a purpose

in nothing, one can find the essence of existence…

DARK DAYS ARE UPON US…STREET JOURNAL 88 BY THB3

Really, what’s the point in anything when we just insist upon continually chipping away at the foundation…?

“From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest. But for us, it’s different. Consider again that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us.

On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.

The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every ‘superstar,’ every ‘supreme leader,’ every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there – on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner.

How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.

Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark.

In our obscurity – in all this vastness – there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known, so far, to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate.

Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment, the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world.

To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

It’s Saturday, April 1, 2017. After the rains had stopped, I found myself standing on the Sumida-Gawa River Terrace looking out at the gray, leaden water, turbulent waves splashing off the levee. Light clouds passed across the sky and white seagulls wheeled all around me. The city of Tokyo surrounded me with its endless madness. For a moment I watched the boats passing by and the towers that surrounded me and the world seemed peaceful and good for a moment. It is moments like this that make life worth living … it’s the little things, you see, those precious occasions when it all seems to come together, to have some semblance of meaning, however elusive that may be…
